British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside French aircraft in a joint strike on an subterranean weapons facility in Syria used by the IS group, according to the UK's MoD.
The location, pinpointed through surveillance, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the announcement noted, and was situated in hills just to the north of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our aircraft utilized Paveway IV guided bombs to target a number of approach shafts leading to the site... initial indications suggest the target was engaged successfully," the ministry announced.
There was no indication of any civilian casualties in the operation late on Saturday and each participating jet returned to base without incident, the MoD added.
The British jets were backed up by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
Daesh - also known as Daesh - established extremist governance over large swathes of Syria and Iraq prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This operation underscores our UK leadership, and resolve to operate in unison with our allies, to eliminate any re-emergence of IS and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the area," Britain's Defence Chief John Healey said.
UK warplanes have performed overwatch operations over Syrian airspace to "deter any attempted comeback" of Islamic State subsequent to its defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in the year 2019, the MoD reported.
"I extend gratitude to all the members of our armed forces who took part in this mission for their skill and their bravery," he commented. "Including them were a great many British troops deployed over the holidays. This mission, to take out terrorist threats who pose a risk to our way of life, highlights how British military are always on standby, throughout the year, keeping Britain secure at home and influential overseas."
In December, the US military executed what it called a "massive strike" on IS targets in the country, after an assault claimed the lives of two US troops and a local interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The United Nations estimates Daesh still boasts between 5,000 and 7,000 militants in Syria and Iraq.
